Digital Design Services, 61 Bread Street, is located just around the corner from Edinburgh Art College, in the West Port area of the city. The studio has been a home to a number of freelance artists and photographers over the years and the small exhibition space that forms part of the building has displayed artwork from some of the UK and Ireland’s finest digital artists.

Exhibitions

Although the exhibition space in the studio is fairly small some of the finest digital artists from the UK and Ireland have exhibited their work here.

The first exhibition in the studio was held in 2008. Eight talented caricaturists came together to present work for a show titled “Digital Stars”. The exhibition featured 56 pieces of artwork created by Ken Coogan, Neil Davies, Mike Giblin, Mick Hollinworth, J P McCarthy, Paul Moyse, Niall Oloughlin and Craig Rogalski.

The following year six digital artists whose work regularly appeared in magazines, books, games and animations exhibited artwork in a show titled "Fantasy Art". On display were 72 digital images produced by Daniel Conway, Matt Dixon, Simon Dominic, Jonny Duddle, Nick Harris and Phil McDarby.

After this came a show involving two very different styles of digital art, one based on florals and the other on caricature. The exhibition was aptly named “The Odd Couple” and it included 54 pieces of work by Mick HollinworthKate Knight and Craig Rogalski.

Next was an exhibition titled “6 Of The Best”. This show brought together 54 pieces of artwork from illustrators, designers, artists, caricaturists and photographers. Artists involved in the exhibition included Neil Davies, Mike GiblinMaryna Halton, Nick Harris, Olly Howe and Kate Knight.

Three freelance artists who were based in the studio then came together to produce their own show called "We 3". This exhibition contained 45 pieces of work by Cate Gillon (Photographer), Kate Knight (Designer) and Gail McKenzie (Illustrator).

The most recent show to take place in the studio was a solo exhibition displaying work by Kate Knight. Kate was a freelance digital artist who had been based in the studio for around 10 years. Kate had 42 pieces of artwork on display during this show.
